Welcome to Fianna Collies! We are a small, hobby breeder of rough and smooth collies in central North Carolina.

Hello!

My name is Mikayla and I’m the person behind Fianna Collies! I grew up with a menagerie of animals, but always had a particular love for dogs. As a very young child, I would get up early on Saturday mornings to watch Animal Planet’s AKC Eukanuba National Championship (now known as Royal Canin). Growing up, my aunt bred field-line Labrador Retrievers and I was her right-hand girl throughout each and every litter.

Collies?

I love this breed and my love started at a young age. I was obsessed with the big collie from 101 Dalmatians that helped Pongo find his puppies. Another of my aunts also had a collie when I was a kid. I adored her and was enthralled with her beauty and grace that only befits a collie. In 2020 I acquired my first collie, Fionn. He was also my entrance into the world of AKC dog sports and I was hooked. Fionn and I have competed in obedience, fastCAT/CAT, and barn hunt. We’ve dabbled in some agility and herding, but haven’t trialed in it yet. He’s my do anything dog! Then in 2022 I brought home a little blue merle girl named Rory. Rory is my first conformation dog and has taught me the ins and outs of collie grooming! Rory and I are beginning our performance journey together and she is an incredibly fun dog to work. She’s my heart walking around outside of my chest and I adore her.

What’s in a name?

Fianna Collies got its name from my first collie, Fionn. When I got Fionn I wanted a name that was both Gaelic (to reflect the breed’s ancestry) and one that fit him. The name Fionn is Gaelic and it means white/fair, so I accomplished both goals! In Irish mythology, Fionn Mac Cumhaill was also a revered warrior. He led a band of warriors called the Fianna. In honor of my first collie, my boy who started it all for me, I named my kennel after him - Fianna Collies.
